Background information:
Rashda heads up RANA IDRS and is a commercial & construction/infrastructure lawyer with over 25 years’ experience in the legal profession. She has worked as counsel and arbitrator in a number of international jurisdictions including London, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and China. Rashda has advised on and conducted major commercial, maritime and construction, oil and energy & infrastructure litigation, arbitration and mediation involving wide ranging issues. Rashda is regularly involved in cases involving highly technical issues as well as complex legal issues. As well as her litigious practice, Rashda has undertaken non-contentious work in drafting, reviewing and settling major project documentation including Defence contracts (Class 1 submarines), infrastructure (roads and tunnels) and banking and finance documentation (prospectuses and insurance policies) and Public Private Partnership transactional documentation. She was formerly Adjunct Professor teaching international commercial arbitration at Sydney University Law School. She devised the course and it was the first of its kind in Australia. She has also published a textbook to complement her course: International Commercial Arbitration (Thomson Reuters). A second text, Alternative Dispute Resolution in Asia, was published in November 2014. She is the Course Director of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration course in Asia. Rashda was the President of ArbitralWomen and is now the co-founder of The Alliance, the Immediate Past President of the Australian branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the Founding Member and former Vice Chair of the Society of Construction Law Australia, a Fellow and former Director of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), Fellow of Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia (IAMA), Fellow of Prime Dispute, Fellow of Commercial Law Association of Australia (CLAA) and the Australian representative to the ICC Taskforce on Subcontracting and the ICC Taskforce on Public Procurement. She is a CEDR accredited mediator and has been appointed as arbitrator in a number of Australian domestic arbitrations as well as international arbitrations primarily in the Asia Pacific region.
