Background information:
Dennis Wilson is engaged in mediation and arbitration both as mediator, arbitrator or as advocate for parties engaged in those processes since his admission to the Bar in 1978 in all areas including Workers Compensation. Dennis Wilson's experience in mediation ranges over a wide variety of matters including commercial, environmental, compulsory land acquisition and compensation, building and construction, tort claims, wills and estate administration, family law property issues and similar. Dennis Wilson has mediated and has represented parties in mediations in dozens of matters. Dennis Wilson was the appointed arbitrator in a number of commercial arbitrations under the New South Wales and the Victorian Commercial Arbitration Acts in the building and construction area. Dennis has also been involved in sports related arbitrations. The Land and Environment Court of New South Wales successfully implements its statutory conciliation, arbitration and mediation scheme and Dennis has participated in many matters under s34 of its legislation in the mediation of development, environmental, and mining/resources disputes. Dennis's interests in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Governance flow from the recognition that CSR and Corporate Governance should be understood, known to and implemented as an important and lawful consideration by corporations and by States whose policies might include principles of CSR as important considerations in granting consents, leases, licenses, permits or property rights for the exploitation of resources and in respect of other commercial/ industrial undertakings. A firm understanding of domestic and international environmental law and issues is crucial for the purpose of a responsible and meaningful recognition of corporate social responsibility and the potential impact on human rights. Dennis Wilson's interest in Corporate Governance flows from the requirement of corporate good governance for the purpose of the implementation of responsible corporate policy and strategy. Dennis has mediated a number of Corporate Board disputes, typically related to corporate decision making, succession and division of function disputes. Dennis was retained to advise foreign investors and appear in respect of land and water access rights under the Mining Act 1992 for of a gold mine in far west New South Wales. Dennis is familiar with mining legislation and regulation and has advised and appeared in matters concerning the numerous issues under that regime. Dennis has been an advocate in hundreds of cases including many concerning planning, development and environmental law, particularly in the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales, including the judicial review of administrative decisions. Dennis is familiar with the formulation, implementation and application of environmental law and policy, both domestically and internationally. Dennis recognises and understand principles of environmentally sustainable development. Dennis is an occasional lecturer in mediation skills and theory and arbitration, including international commercial arbitration at Notre Dame University, Sydney Australia and at the O.P. Jindal Global University, India. In October/November 2019 he delivered a series of lectures at the O.P. Jindal Global University, India for the purpose of accreditation in the field of mediation.
