Background information: 
Michael Jonathan Numa is the Managing Partner of M.J Numa & Partners LLP.  Michael heads the Corporate Commercial and dispute resolution practice group of the firm. Michael obtained his LL.B (Hons) from Delta State University, in 2008 and was called to the Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2010. In 2013, Michael obtained an LL.M from the prestigious Queen Mary University of London in International Business Law. He also completed the International Comparative Arbitration course at Queen Mary University. In 2018, Michael concluded a certificate program on U.S. Business Law from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.

Michael Jonathan Numa has advised several Corporate and high net individual clients in complex commercial transactions such as corporate restructuring, corporate finance, acquisitions, insurance claims, power purchase agreements, gas trading agreements, regulatory compliance, secured finance and other corporate transactions. He is tested for trying some recondite and novel disputes in all superior courts up to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He has equally appeared as counsel before Several Local and International Arbitral Tribunal.

  • Presently litigating MV SUN ESSEX v BENSAM MARITIME OIL & GAS at the Court of Appeal Lagos Division;
  • Presently litigating an 8Billion Naira Forfeiture proceedings brought by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against two Nigerian Indigenous Companies;
  • Successfully defended the Federal Capital Territory Administration in a $500 Million claim brought by BPS Engineering at the Supreme Court in January, 2017;
  • Presently litigating at the Supreme Court of Nigeria a Variation Contract for commission for $200Million with respect of first telecoms licence in Nigeria. Atlantic Network V Abawa Nigeria Ltd;
  • Successfully argued the Constitutionality of the tenement rates levied by the Local Governments in FCT;
  • Advising First Bank Nigeria Ltd on various banking transactions;
  • Successfully defended First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. in a 200 Million Naira overdraft claim before an F.C.T. High Court wherein the Bank exercised it’s right of lien sequel upon the facility.
