Background information: 
Mofesomo Tayo-Oyetibo is the Managing Counsel and overall practice head of the law firm of Twelve Legal. Before setting up Twelve Legal, Mofesomo spent time practicing first at one of Nigeria’s most notable full-service law firms and then at a foremost dispute resolution law firm, where he worked on and developed invaluable expertise in both transactional and disputes work, having participated in several ground-breaking matters of considerable value and complexities.

Mofesomo represent clients in a wide range of disputes concerning the areas of banking, commercial crime, contracts, corporate insolvency, employment, enforcement of foreign judgments and awards, marine and general insurance, power, securities, shipping, and international trade and oil and gas. Mofesomo also advise clients on matters relating to the legal aspects of their entry into the Nigerian market or ongoing operations in the country, regulatory issues, corporate structure, and governance.

Experience: 
  • Acting as lead counsel to a Nigerian upstream oil and gas company in a domestic arbitration concerning a dispute with its lender over a $50 Million debt recovery claim by the lender;
  • Acting as lead counsel to a leading Nigerian civil engineering company in a domestic arbitration concerning a dispute with one of Nigeria’s largest private security companies, which arose from a security services agreement;
  • Acting as co-counsel to a leading Nigerian electronic payments company in a London ICC International Arbitration involving a Moroccan software development company in respect of a dispute arising from a software development agreement;
  • Acting as counsel to a Nigerian oil exploration and production company in an over $450 million arbitration claim brought by the company’s financiers in respect of a transaction for the acquisition of assets in the Nigerian oil and gas industry;
  • Representing an indigenous oil and gas company in an over N200 Million arbitration claim against its Hull and Machinery insurer, in respect of damage suffered by the company’s vessel in the course of its voyage to Nigeria;
  • Representing an indigenous dredging company in an over N200 Million arbitration claim against its counterparty, in respect of a dredging services agreement;
  • Representing one of the world’s transportation technology companies in domestic arbitration proceedings in respect of a dispute with a former employer who had presented a claim for more than N150 Million in relation to the termination of his Contract of Employment;
  • Acting as Secretary to a three-person arbitral tribunal in a Nigerian maritime arbitration arising from an agreement for the hire of vessels.
