Optional Module: Introduction to Commercial Contracts
This Introductory course is optional and open to all individuals who seek to develop their knowledge including those who wish to take it prior to undertaking any Module 2 courses. Commercial contracts can be complicated and difficult to understand. Contracts are important in a number of different ways and understanding the implications of signing or breaching a contract is vital. Their general appearance, style of writing, and use of legal terminology can be off-putting and often seem to be written in impenetrable code by lawyers for other lawyers. This course will de-mystify the world of commercial contracts. Membership The course is also relevant to those candidates seeking to gain certified APD (Advocate Prime Dispute) membership designation. Course Structure: Day 1: 09:30-18:30 GMT- Online The objectives of the course are as follows: Introduction to commercial contracts will discuss the key skills and knowledge related to understanding the basics of a contract. It will explain why contracts look the way they do. It will highlight the key features of a contract as well as associated conflict/dispute avoidance/resolution mechanisms. Candidates will receive an understanding of the different stages in the life of a contract, and some of the issues that can be encountered at each stage. These stages include drafting, negotiating, approving, signing, administering, performing, amending, terminating and litigating contracts. Who should attend this Course:
Assessment: This optional module is not assessed in a formal manner but does require candidates to undertake a degree of preparation before attending and 100% attendance is required. Progression is monitored through their attendance and performance on the day. Entry Requirements: There are no specific entry requirements. This course is at an introductory level and is a precursor to any 'Module 2'. Contract law also exemplifies principles of law and techniques of analysis which go to the heart of any legal system. The existence and application of the law of contract have far-reaching implications whether the perspective is that of a large commercial company or of a consumer. Last but not least, the law of contract affects everyone in business and supports the way in which business is conducted. Candidates will learn about the 'Protected Characteristics' and some of the issues that may be associated with their industry sector, developing practical techniques to ensure candidates and others are treated appropriately and protected from disputes arising and how to manage them should they arise. This Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training course, is for professionals at any level, who want to develop the right tools and be confident in applying equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and avoiding potential disputes in life.
