Read More Uber BV and others v Aslam and others | Uber has lost its case in the UK’s Supreme Court over drivers' rights, as the Court ruled that Uber’s drivers are workers entitled to basic employment rights, such as the minimum wage and holiday pay."The definition of “employment” and related expressions in section 78 of the Race Relations Act 1976 has been substantially replicated in section 83(2)(a) of the Equality Act 2010, which defines “employment” to include “employment under a contract of employment, a contract of apprenticeship or a contract personally to do work”. Although not the same as the definition of a “worker” and a “worker’s contract” in section 230(3) of the 1996 Act, the two definitions have been held to have substantially the same effect: see Pimlico Plumbers Ltd v Smith [2018] UKSC 29; [2018] ICR 1511, paras 13-15." "A French court has refused to enforce a US$26 million award against a prominent Qatari businessman that resulted in criminal convictions for the arbitrators – finding that their decision to move the arbitral seat and transform the case into an ad hoc proceeding was in breach of due process." Read More Climate Change | Court ruled in favor of plaintiffs, in a landmark case acknowledging the responsibility of the French State for its climate goals. “This is an historic win for climate justice. The decision not only takes into consideration what scientists say and what people want from French public policies, but it should also inspire people all over the world to hold their governments accountable for climate change in their courts,” said Jean-François Julliard, the executive director of Greenpeace France, one of the plaintiffs.
